Article: “Bengawan Solo” – ‘Life’ Section (Pg C4)

Question 1:
What are some factors that contribute to the success of the confectionery business?

Some factors contribute to the confectionery business are, the determination of the founder. She wants perfection in the 'kueh' and demand a non-change original taste of it. Patience of making a perfect recipe as she heed her customers' commends about her 'kueh' and make a change and modified the recipe and taste.

Question 2:
What are some learning points you can pick up from this article that you can apply in your personal life?

When I met trouble, never give up easily. Find out whats wrong and find way to deal with it. Heed advise and commends given by others and change rapidly if found out something is not right.

Term 2 Week 3 (6th April)

Article: “Busy Singapore youth find little to cheer” – ‘Home’ Section (Pg B8)

Question 1:
State any three reasons given by Singapore youths what they are unhappy about.

Ans:

1) Parents did not have trust in them.
2) Follow what parents expect them to do.
3) Parents having high expectations on them.

Question 2:
(a) Are you happy with your current lifestyle? Why?

Ans:

Nope, obivously not happy about it. As Lots of studies to be done, Afriad that if I failed to meet my parents expectations, they will be disappointed. Singapore is a busy and high expectation country. If don't have a N and O level certificate, not have to enter JC or Polytechnic. Without them, not able to have a good job and high income, which means that I am like just a piece of junk. Nothing to do everyday, disappont my parents.

(b) What are some of the problems you face in life today?

Ans:

-Studying difficulties
-Friends difficulties

Term 2 Week4 (13th April)

Article: “Mum’s catching up with me… on Facebook” – ‘Home’ Section (Pg B2)

Question 1:
What are some reasons given by those interviewed why they are not too comfortable accepting their parents are friends on Facebook?

Ans:

Some reasons like, invading privacy an doesn't have trust on them. Checking that if they have any boy girl relationships and even kinds of friends they have.

Question 2:
(a) Do you have a Facebook account? Yes/No? Why?
(b) Would you be comfortable accepting your parents as friends on Facebook? Yes/No? Why?

Ans:

a) Yes, i have a facebook account. I think having a facebook account will let others like my friends to know me better and also to get to know more friends.
Having facebook account, I am also able to know others and if i have difficulties searching my long lost friends, then log to facebook and their details or name, information found.

b)I am not comfortable accepting my parents as friends on facebook as i feel that they are like invading my privacy or maybe checking what i am to nowadays and even having a spot check of what kinds of friends i have.
They will give me a feeling that they never have trust in me and what i do.

Term 2 Week 2 (30th March)

Article: “Sorry guys, these lots are not for you” – ‘Home’ Section (Pg B1)

Question 1:
What were some of the reasons cited in the article why there was a need to have parking lots for women only in these buildings?

ans: some reason would be for exmaple, women with childrens sometimes have hard time finding parking lots in these buildings.

Question 2:
(a) In your opinion, do you think it is necessary to allocate parking lots for women only? Why?
Which group of people do you then feel should be allocated such priority parking? Explain

ans: in my opinion, i think having parking priority parking for women is nessary because someitmes if childrens going to schools but women having hard time find parking lots and if childrens need to change their daipers but mothers having hard time finding parking lots.
there's 1 particular group of people i felt its nesscary which is men as mostly men drives car to work. men going to work but have hard time finding parking lots.

Straits Times E-Forum Reflection

Week 6 (9th March)

Article: “Help for single mums in downturn” – ‘Main’ Section (Pg A4-5)

Question 1:
What project was launched to help single mums? Briefly explain what is this project about?

1: Helping a single mother by finding/ getting them a job, also be able to join support groups that arrange various activities for them and their children in their difficult days. The aims is to reach out to divorcees, widows and other single mothers who not only have a tougher time balancing their work and family.Apart from helping those out of work to find jobs NTUC will encourage those who cannot go out to work to make use of other skills, like baking or sewing, to help themselves increase their family income.

Question 2:
Imagine you come across a single mum who is unemployed, what are some advice you can give her? Who can she turn to?


2: I would teel the person to seek help from National Trades Union Congress.I would suggest her to a get the booklet from NTUC.The booklet will include material on custody, care and maintenance of children, where to seek help for family violence, and the telephone numbers of various support organisations.

Question 1:
What were some indications which showed that the victim was facing problems before he committed the rash act?

ans: he played lots of games and when his friends message him, he did not repied. that's not his kind of behavior. he kept to himself lately.

Question 2:
(a) Is it very stressful being a student in Singapore? Explain.
(b) What are some problems you face as a student which adds to your stress level?

ans: a) in my opinion, i think is it very stressful being a student in singapore. the critera to promote to secondary 5 changed. and as a sec 4 student, you can tell the difference when you compared from sec 1 to 3. being of the first 3 months, schools already prepare our CAs and test after test.

b) as a student, my maths is quite poor and whats more is that the critera of promoting sec 5 changed instead of having english and best 3 subject and total of 10 points. but now, misitry of education add maths into the critera.

Question 1:
What are some reasons stated in the article why some people choose to have body art like tattoos or piercings done on parts of their body.

ans: Nowadays people especially teenager seems fancies about body art.Some reasons would be, they want to beautify themselves. Maybe they think its special,unique and looks cool on them. They think by looking abit werid is a trend and wants to be special.

Question 2:
(a) What are some imppressions you would form of a person whose body is covered with tattoo?

ans: In my opinon, I think tattos will give people a bad impression even if that person with tattoos is just trying to be cool and he/she is not a bad person at all. Tattoos gave people bad impression as people normally would think that having tattoos that person maybe a gangster.

(b) Would you consider getting a tattoo in future? Why?

ans: I'm not considering getting myself a tattoo or any other body art. I think having body art, is like destroying hte perfect body that our parents gave. And of course, as I said, tattoos gave people bad impression even he/she doesn't do anything wrong.
